Hip Physiotherapy

The hip region provides the foundation of your movement so when you suffer from hip pain or injury it can limit even the simplest of daily activities.

As well as being the potential origin of pain the hip region is also a common area to feel referred pain from the lower back or knee, so it is essential to receive an accurate assessment before embarking on a treatment program.

Hip pain can pose a major limitation on your ability to participate in even the simplest daily activities. At Bulleen Physiotherapy Centre our hip physiotherapy programs aim to provide you with sustainable health outcomes so that you will achieve an optimal recovery from hip conditions such as:

  • Osteoarthritis – age-related degenerative joint disease that in advanced cases requires hip surgery, especially total hip replacement surgery
  • Gluteal tendinopathy – an injury to any of the various tendons attaching the gluteal (buttock) muscles to the skeleton, most commonly as a result of overuse or inadequate recovery after an acute strain
  • Trochanteric bursitis – inflammation of the bursa (fluid-filled sac) between the greater trochanter of the femur and the overlying soft-tissue, characterised by pain on the outside of the hip that is often aggravated by walking, prolonged standing and even lying on that side
  • Femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI) – a degenerative condition caused by a difference in the shape of the hip socket and the head of the femur, characterised by loss of hip flexion and inward rotation with associated pain
